About

Gillian is a research fellow working across Primary Care and Nursing and Physiotherapy. Formerly a social worker, Gill’s interests include psycho-social aspects of genetics, children and families, end-of-life care and the involvement of minority ethnic groups in research.

Biography

Gillian qualified as a social worker in 1989 and worked with children and families in a number of different front-line and management roles for 15 years. Undertaking a Masters degree in social research and social policy (2003-2004) led to a career change to researcher. Her first post was working on the large National Evaluation of the Children’s Fund. Following this she secured a research post in the school of nursing, working on ‘FamilyTalk’, a project looking at family communication, particularly to children and young people, in families affected by a genetic condition. Since this she has worked on a number of projects relating to end-of-life care, student mentoring, psycho-social aspects of genetics and the involvement of ethnic minority communities in research.
