Kiya graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) in Public Health Nutrition. Upon leaving university, Kiya began working on a weight management programme for children aged 7-11 years old within Birmingham called Watch-It. Watch-It was a community based programme which aimed to help children and families improve their eating behaviour and increase their physical activity.
In 2009, Kiya moved to Coventry City Council to work within the public health nutrition team. After only 6 months, Kiya was awarded a temporary promotion to managing the team. Whilst working in this role, Kiya helped to reshape the team following a review of nutrition services in the city and also assisted in the development of an antenatal weight management service which helps women manage their weight gain during pregnancy.
In 2011, Kiya joined the University of Birmingham as a Research Assistant on the West Midlands Active Lifestyle and Healthy Eating in School Children study (WAVES). Kiya is also studying part-time towards a PhD looking at dietary patterns and weight status in school aged children in the West Midlands.
