Research

My research examines the role and function of Trojan mythology under the emperor Nero, exploring the way in which Trojan myth’s palimpsestuous nature, and its constantly evolving and shifting meaning in antiquity, is realised in Neronian culture and literature. In particular it considers how the depiction of Trojan myth changes under Nero, focusing on the ways in which Neronian writers rewrite and reframe previous versions of Troy, and what these changes can tell us about the wider context of the myth’s representation.
