Introduction to Greek and Roman Literature

Module description:

The module provides an introduction to key aspects and periods of Greek and Roman Literature.

Semester 1 introduces Greek Literature, starting from the Iliad and Odyssey, moving on to a selection of lyric poetry (eg Sappho), and concluding with a selection of tragedies.

Semester 2 introduces key Roman texts and authors, beginning with Virgil’s Aeneid. Other texts include Cicero’s speeches against Catiline, and a selection of Roman elegy and satire.
