Part of the Danford collection
The Danford Collection of African Arts and Crafts is a nationally important collection. Items of it have been loaned for display to exhibitions elsewhere in the UK. Its rehousing in DASA was supported by grants from the University of Birmingham, the West Midlands Area Museum Service, and Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery.

A major part of the collection is on permanent display in the seminar room, where lectures and seminars take place.

The collection is used for teaching, research seminars, poetry readings and educational events for schools as well as being open to the public. It is one of the many hidden treasures at the University of Birmingham.
