Biography

I came to academic study, following a career in industrial management, with the express purpose of keeping my mind active.

But the reality of the process of completing the MA programme in West Midlands History turned out to be so much more than that. The inspiration and support provided by Dr Malcolm Dick and his colleagues in the Centre for West Midlands History have helped me and my friends to achieve things that we perhaps thought, at times, that we were not capable of. Integration into a community of academics, researchers, students and enthusiasts of history, centred on the Centre for West Midlands History has been an incredibly stimulating experience.

Research

I am now undertaking doctoral research into the intellectual communities and networks of the Severn Valley and Black Country in the 18th and early 19th centuries under the watchful eyes of Professor Peter Jones and Dr Malcolm Dick and have just been honoured with the award of a College Scholarship to fund the final two years of my PhD programme.
