My PhD work reconstructs the experience of dining among the gentry and middling sort in early modern England. This project joins my background in art history to my interest in current methodological practices for the study of material culture. I explore the relationship between the design and function of objects, drawing on insights from anthropological and archaeological theory, and consider ways in which objects shaped and conditioned social behaviour.
I am also interested in participating in outreach and public engagement initiatives and am currently involved in ‘Reaching Out from higher Education’ (AHRC) and ‘Creative Minds’ (AHRC and CHASE). I am also a co-founder of and a contributor to the digital public engagement project ‘Shakespeare’s World in 100 Objects’ which can be found at www.findingshakespeare.co.uk
