African Studies and Anthropology

The Department of African Studies and Anthropology (DASA) has an established, international reputation as a centre of excellence in the study of Africa and its diasporas. Our programmes include a taught Masters programmes in Africa and Development, Masters- and doctoral-level research degrees, and our  MRes African Studies, which combines three taught modules, with a 20,000 word thesis.

Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology

We bring together the study of Greece, Rome and Egypt. Our staff offer a wide range of expertise in the history, culture, archaeology and languages of the ancient world. We are also home to the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek Studies – the only research centre in the UK which brings all of these subjects together in a single unit.
