The School of Immunity of Infection is an internationally recognised centre for world class research in Immunology and Infection.

It is part of the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham.  Our research into areas such as stem cells, T-cells, microbiology and virology is helping to provide a greater understanding of the world at a cellular and sub-cellular level.

From laboratory bench through to clinical trials, our translational work is assisting with the development of treatments and drugs to fight against killer diseases, debilitating illnesses, 'superbugs' and re-emerging diseases that were once wiped out the in the UK, but are now making a comeback.

Translational Research
Opened in 2011, the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital hosts a dedicated wing for the School of Immunity & Infection which is home to a number of our specialist centres.  From within this base, students and researchers see how their fundamental work could translate to help improve patient quality of life, deliver a treatment or even find a cure.  This is a 'bench to bedside' experience offered in a state of the art 'super' hospital environment.
