The MRC-ARUK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research was launched formally on November 7th 2012 with a full capacity lecture from Professor Richard Dawkins on 'The Role of Evolution in Medicine', which was held at the University of Birmingham.
The Centre Director, Prof Janet Lord of the University of Birmingham, and the Deputy Director, Prof Paul Greenhaff of the University of Nottingham, were joined for the launch by Sir John Savill of the Medical Research Council and Prof Alan Silman of Arthritis Research UK.
The five year £3.25m award will establish a Centre of Excellence with the aim of improving understanding of age-related musculoskeletal decline, including the role of dysregulated inflammation and how this impacts upon frailty and diseases such as arthritis.
