The University of Birmingham has long-standing links with the People's Republic of China and is one of the most popular British universities for Chinese students choosing to study overseas.
The UK is the home of Common Law and traditional universities such as Birmingham carry a powerful international reputation leading to enhanced job prospects. We receive a large and growing number of applications from Chinese students each year especially for postgraduate programmes such as the LLM in International Commercial Law.
I chose to study in the UK because a Masters programme takes one year instead of the three it would take in China. The legal system in China is undergoing changes and the country requires more scholars who have learnt about UK law to help shape the future direction of the Chinese legal system. (Xi Zhang, LLM)
Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. This is an excellent way to keep in contact with home and also provides an opportunity to highlight your culture and customs in the UK.
We have an active Chinese Student Society and most of our Chinese students chose to become a part of this group whilst studying at the University. To find out more about our Chinese society, please visit their facebook page.
We asked some of our Chinese students to tell us about their experiences at Birmingham, to view their comments please follow the links below.
- Chinese students typically follow a 12 year education system. For admission onto an LLB programme the University of Birmingham requires all applicants to have studied for 13 years, and therefore you will need to take a foundation year before commencing your undergraduate programme.
- 80% average in a four-year LLB programme from a prestigious Chinese institution alongside IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
- 75% average in a four-year degree from a prestigious Chinese institution alongside IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
We offer a range of school specific scholarships each year. For details please click on the appropriate link below.
