Earlier this month Graham Gee, a lecturer at Birmingham Law School, co-chaired a two-day workshop on judicial independence at Windsor Castle.

The event was hosted by St George’s House, which was founded in 1966 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and the then Dean, Robin Woods. St George’s House offers an intellectual space where people of influence from across society can come together to discuss issues of national and international importance through a series of ‘Consultations’.

The Consultation on judicial independence was jointly organized with an AHRC-funded project on The Politics of Judicial Independence in Britain’s Changing Constitution, on which Graham has been working with Robert Hazell (UCL), Kate Malleson (Queen Mary) and Patrick O’Brien (UCL). Politicians, judges and officials from across the UK and Canada discussed a variety of issues, including judicial appointments, running the courts , judicial input into policy-making and relations between judges and Parliament.
