About

Jyoti Ahuja is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, and is currently undertaking doctoral research at Birmingham Law School under the supervision of Dr Claire McIvor. Her research focusses on causation analysis in Tort Law, and on the use of statistical and epidemiological evidence in resolving issues of legal liability.

Biography

Jyoti graduated from Birmingham Law School with a first class LLB Honours degree in 2011. During her LLB, she was awarded the Hogan Lovells Prize for overall academic performance, as well as the Ince & Co Prize, the Oxford University Press Prize and the Sir Henry Barber Scholarship.

Jyoti completed her LLB studies whilst practising as a Clinical Psychologist in the National Health Service. Her particular interests in this regard lie in improving equality of access to appropriate mental health care, and in the interface between law and mental health.

Research

Jyoti is generally interested in researching the areas of medical negligence and toxic torts, and also has a special interest in how courts understand and deal with mental illness, particularly in the context of criminal law.
