Dr Louise Hardwick from French Studies, Department of Modern Languages, recently gave a paper at the European Science Foundation Conference ‘First-Person Writing, Four-Way Reading’, a three-day interdisciplinary research conference on literature, history, medical humanities and ethnography. The conference took place at Birkbeck, University of London, and brought together over 150 international speakers.
Dr Hardwick’s paper discussed the genre of the récit d’enfance/childhood memoir and its place in studies of autobiography, focusing in particular on literature from the Francophone Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. Her participation at the conference was supported by a grant from the European Science Foundation.
