About

In the French department I taught on undergraduate and postgraduate courses on literature and cinema, including a final-year option on Godard, Resnais and Rohmer. I was Head of Department from 1997 to 2002. In my retirement I have continued to edit Benjamin Constant’s Correspondance générale with Dr C P Courtney (Christ’s College, Cambridge) and Dr Adrianne J Tooke (Somerville College, Oxford).

Biography

Professor Dennis Wood is Emeritus Professor of French Literature. He has research and teaching interests in eighteenth and nineteenth-century French literature, in particular in the work of Benjamin Constant, Isabelle de Charrière, Germaine de Staël, and the Groupe de Coppet, in the French novel, and in the field of French cinema, particularly the work of Alain Resnais. He was a member of the international Editorial Board (1973-1983) which prepared the Œuvres complètes of Isabelle de Charrière in 10 volumes (1979-1983), and had particular responsibility for Volumes VIII and IX. He is a member of the international Editorial Board currently preparing the 45-volume Correspondance générale and Œuvres complètes of Benjamin Constant (Comité scientifique 1983-1993, Comité directeur 1993- ).
