Brittany Iveson, a second year BA Modern Languages & European Studies student, was jointly awarded this prize in 2012. Brittany used the bursary to support a trip to Morocco’s major cities prior to her Year Abroad. Brittany’s interest in French-speaking North Africa was stimulated by two 2nd Year French modules (La France moderne 2 and French Text and Interpretation), where topics such as decolonisation and literary representations of North-African heritage and identity are a particular focus.
The second half of the prize fund was awarded to Imogen Poole, a final year French & Hispanic Studies student. Following graduation in July, Imogen undertook a research trip to Martinique, after completing a final year option module, convened by Dr Louise Hardwick, entitled ‘Franco-Caribbean Literature and Film’.
