Manuscript Illumination and Sixteenth Century Franco-Flemish Art

Posted on Wednesday 21st March 2012

Dr Elizabeth L’Estrange has been granted an undergraduate research scholarship so that a non-final year student can undertake paid research with her over the summer on a project entitled ‘Manuscript Illumination and Sixteenth Century Franco-Flemish Art’. The student will help Dr L’Estrange carry out specific research related to a manuscript in the University of Liège library, in Belgium. The manuscript, a Book of Hours, was produced in France c. 1520-1540 and the work will involve analysing the miniatures and relating them to contemporary media, such as prints, paintings and stained glass. The student will have the opportunity to travel to Belgium to see the manuscript.

Last year’s undergraduate scholar, Charlotte Flint, talks about her experience here: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/lcahm/departments/historyofart/news/2011/charlotte-flint.aspx

Closing date for applications is 27 April 2012. For further information contact e.a.lestrange@bham.ac.uk
