Dr Elizabeth L’Estrange is giving a paper as part of the University of Cambridge’s Graduate Research Seminars in History of Art. The theme of the seminars is Gender and Sexuality. Dr L’Estrange’s paper will discuss a translation of Boccaccio’s Teseida that was made by Anne de Graville, lady-in-waiting to Queen Claude of France, focusing in particular on how the text and accompanying images in the dedication copy promoted ideas on feminine behaviour to an audience of courtly women.
