Having graduated from the University of Pisa, Italy and University of Iceland in Italian Linguistics, Icelandic, Art History and Cultural Heritage Conservation, I am currently in the sixth year of a Part-Time and Distance learning PhD in Italian Studies under the supervision of Dr. Daniele Albertazzi (University of Birmingham) and Prof. Gabriele Iannaccaro (University of Milano–Bicocca). I am currently teaching Italian Language, History, Art History and Literature at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik.

Research project:

Post 1989 Italy has seen a growing interest in identity, specifically identity in society as well as in state institutions; scholars have already begun to speak about Italian ‘neo-nationalism’. One of the main actors of this identity revival has been a political party called Lega Nord (currently the oldest party represented in the Italian Parliament). Since its establishment, the Lega Nord has promoted new (anti-Italian) identities with the result of awakening interest in Italians for preexisting and ‘new’ identities.

My research analyzes the activity of the Lega Nord in creating and promoting identities, looking at a very specific but vital ingredient of any identity building process: the language.

My research answers this question with a mixed quantitative and qualitative analysis approach conducted on the written propaganda of Lega Nord.
