Research programmes

Our PhD degrees and MA by Research are available in 5 European Languages: French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. We have world-leading research in each these Languages and a really vibrant research environment: new and innovative research projects are constantly developed by staff and postgraduates, and there is regular programme of research seminars. We support students not only in research, but in giving successful papers and planning their careers – a much more holistic approach than that usually provided elsewhere. You can learn additional languages (see below), without any extra cost, as you do a PhD with us. Our research ranges from the medieval to the contemporary.

An academic member of staff will provide expert supervision.

We now offer all of our postgraduate students the opportunity to develop their language skills, either for personal development or to support their research, via our Languages for All and Graduate Languages courses.
