Join Wind and Brass Bands in Chancellor’s Court throughout Community Day as they perform an exciting range of music, including some Olympic-themed works. As part of the launch of the new Bramall Music Building, Big Band will also be performing several sets in its Elgar Concert Hall.
During this day of family fun you can hear music from The Incredibles and Chariots of Fire, and the brass band classic Floral Dance. The Brass Band also fly the University flag in the 2012 Cultural Olympiad as they participate in 'Brass the Baton', an international relay race involving five conductor's batons, each representing on of the five Olympic rings. The race starts at the prestigious European Brass Band Championships on Sunday 6 May and the batons reach their destination during the London 2012 Festival on Sunday 22 July.
Inspired by London 2012.
Part of the Summer Festival of Music. The Summer Festival of Music has been running at the University of Birmingham for over 20 years. It is a week-long festival organised by students to create music-making opportunities for performers from across the University and the wide community. Each year the festival welcomes new participants in a variety of roles - from conductors, composers and the many members of the ensembles to the organising commitee - ensuring that there is something for everyone.
This year the Birmingham-based Edward's Trust is our charity partner.
