Alkan: An Anniversary Lecture-Recital
Kenneth Hamilton piano
Kenneth Hamilton plays and discusses the remarkable music of Romantic piano virtuoso Charles Valentin Alkan, a friend of Chopin and Liszt in Paris in the 1830s, whose bicentenary is celebrated this year. The concert includes the first movement of Alkan’s gargantuan Concerto without Orchestra, op. 39, widely considered one of the most challenging and thrilling pieces ever written for the piano.
