Abstract

My electroacoustic compositions over the past 30 years have experimented with many different mindsets, toolkits, and presentation forms; ranging from analog synthesizers and tape machines to high-channel Wavefield-Synthesis systems; from improvisation to evening-length scored works; from computer-programming to gesture-controlled live-electronics. In their variety, most of them are based on recorded sounds and share a common quest to work with memory. The talk will detail my thinking about sonic elements taken from their natural context and placed/shaped into a new, composed meaning. Degrees of abstraction are used to guide and surprise the listener in a network of relations and imagined locations.
