As part of its blossoming choral singing provision, University Music successfully launched its new choir - University Staff Singers - this month in the Barber Institute of Fine Arts.

Barber Institute of Fine Arts

Open to all abilities - there is no prerequisite to be able to sing, enthusiasm outweighs singing ability - ‘University Staff Singers’ is led by students studying the prestigious Music MA: Choral Conducting course in the Department of Music, and is still looking for new members to join its ranks following the choirs first two rehearsals.

If you would like to find out more about the choir, please contact Gavin Allsop (g.m.allsop@bham.ac.uk). Weekly rehearsals are held at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts - Thursday afternoons from 12.30 to 13.30.

Choirs are an essential component of University Music, connecting the University with the public, and the eclectic mix on offer - ranging from the auditioned Birmingham University Singers to the un-auditioned University Chorus - enables the University to engage with around 350 people per week, of all ages and abilities, in and around the local community.
