All Scholarships offered by the Graduate School in Mathematics are very competitive and open only to students who have accepted an offer of a place on our PhD programme. When applying for entry to the programme, if a candidate requires a scholarship they should state explicitly which ones they are eligible for.
School Scholarships
These scholarships cover all tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of approximately £13,600.

Birmingham Postgraduate Elite Scholarships – applications must be received before 31st December. (Decisions are made in February)
If applicants wish to be considered for the award of a scholarship, please indicate this when asked "How do you intend to fund your studies?" on the application form.
Partial School Scholarships

Loyalty scholarship –These are competitive awards of £2000 towards the tuition fees of overseas students who graduate with a 1st class MSci degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham.

Joint Honours Scholarship – This is a competitive Scholarship covers tuition fees for students with a joint 1st class degree in Mathematics and an Art subject from the University of Birmingham.

International Scholarships – A small number of scholarships contributing towards living expenses or reduction of tuition fees.

University Scholarships
These scholarships are very competitive and only the most qualified students will be entered by the Graduate School. We emphasise that the Graduate School and not the student applies for these scholarships. Students accepted to the Graduate School after 31st May of the year of entry cannot be considered for these scholarships.

Alumni Scholarship – open to all full-time postgraduate students (including internationals) who are an alumnus or the child of an alumnus of The University of Birmingham, preference given to students reading a research degree. Renewable for up to 3 years. Value of award: Home rate tuition fees only

Dudley Docker Research Scholarship – open only to existing students at The University of Birmingham who have graduated in a Pure or Applied Science and continuing to undertake research at the University in a Science or Engineering field

Richard Fenwick Scholarship – open to any full-time postgraduate student. Value of Award: Home tuition and a maintenance allowance

AE Hills Scholarship – open to any full-time postgraduate student. Value of Award: Home tuition and a maintenance allowance
In addition PhD students can supplement their grants and awards by participating in the teaching of our undergraduate students.
