What our alumni have said

The School of Mechanical Engineering is proud of all of its students and alumni, and they are proud to have been here. We keep in touch after graduation via the EPS Alumni Office.

"I found a good balance of material in the degree programme and its modules. The facilities in the school were excellent, and I had good access to staff. The combination of mechanical engineering and business in my degree has proved excellent for professional life, especially consultancy."
- Phil Greenwood M Eng., Management Consultant, Accenture Ltd, London.

“Well structured programme which was industrially relevant. Opportunity to study for a year in the USA. Able to take an industrial year out and have it count towards becoming a chartered engineer. Birmingham’s reputation with employers made finding a good graduate job easier. Birmingham gave me the tools and confidence to succeed.”
- Bhupinder Jutti M.Eng., Project Engineer, Woods Air Movements, Colchester.

"During my time at Birmingham I acquired analytical skills that I find myself now applying at work to real life problems, and was active within the James Watt Undergraduate Society, the School's rugby team and the Team's Committee. I developed both professionally and socially.”
- Tom Roaf, Air Products, Rotterdam.

"Reading for an MSc in Operations Management at the University of Birmingham was one of the best decisions I made for both my personal and career goals. I made contacts with very helpful lecturers who ensured that the students, many of whom were from a different educational background, understood what was taught. The contacts I made with my professors enabled me get a job in my field of interest, and the university’s strong research background motivated me to apply for a PhD. It is satisfying to be able to apply the things I learnt to real life and I am now looking forward to doing my part-time PhD at Birmingham too!"
- Diana Kabeizi, WSP Transporation, Cambridge.

“The MSc in Operations Management combines engineering knowledge and skills with management and science providing a wide range of employment opportunities in both technical and managerial environments across the world. The taught modules enabled me to understand the application of business and management expertise in the industrial and engineering sectors; the summer project allowed me to apply my understanding to real life problems. The lecturers are very helpful and have a considerable experience in both academia and industry from which I benefited the most. I consider studying my MSc in the University of Birmingham one of my most influential experiences, had no hesitation in staying on for full-time research in Quality , and will soon be submitting my PhD thesis.”
- Khalid Al-Ghamdi, University of Birmingham.
