Mechanical Engineering research grants/awards September 2013 Posted on 19 Dec 2013 Our research goes from strength to strength: Prof. Hongming Xu and Dr Oluremi Olatunbosun won a new JLR contract ‘"X" in -the-loop & Artificial Intelligent Vehicle and Engine Control’ (Amount: 239, 916 inc VAT; Period: August 2013 –July 2014). Dr Mozafar Saadat and Dr Rustam Stolkin won a TSB/KTP contract ‘Development of an advanced, automated multi-axial fibre lay-up facility for the manufacture of a new range of composite products’ with Formax UK Ltd (Amount: £155,993; Period: January 2014 – January 2017). Dr Jakub Piaszyk, Professor Mirek Wyszynski and Dr Thanos Tsolakis won a new contract with Wartsila Oy Finland “Catalytic treatment of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and evaluation of the potential for removal of sulphur (including gasification/reforming for gaseous fuel in large engines burning residual and waste fuel)”. (Amount: £68,400 inc. VAT; Period: September 2013 – May 2014.) Dr Remi Olatunbosun awarded a TSB contract on prototype tyre development (Amount: £295k; Period: TBC). Dr Thanos Tsolakis won a Jaguar contract on advanced diesel exhaust after-treatment thermal management (Amount: £60k; Period: October 2012 - September 2015) Professor Hongming Xu won a Marie Curie Actions Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP) project (Amount: €16.9k or £13.2k; Period: August 2013-July 2017) Dr Khamis Essa awarded a DSTL contract “to build auxetic structures from superelastic materials using additive layer manufacturing for the development of lightweight, high performance and smart armours” (Amount: £45.5k; Period: August 2013 – January 2014; co-PI: Dr Moataz Attallah, Met and Mat) Professor Stefan Dimov won a EC FP7 CSA contract “Advanced Manufacturing of Multi-Material Multi-Functional Products towards 2020 and Beyond (FP7-4M2020)” (Amount: £100.7k; Period: September 2013 - August 2016).
