About

Kyle Jiang is Professor of Nanotechnology and Director of Biomedical Engineering and Micro/Nanotechnology Research Centre.

Kyle Jiang has authored about 200 publications in books, scientific journals and refereed international conferences. He is the inventor of five patents. His research in microengine has received wide public media reports. As the principal investigator, he has received major research grants from the following organizations:

  • Microgas turbine engine, US company
  • Prediction and management of fluid transport in PEM fuel cells, TSB
  • Rapid SPR for parallel detection of pathogens in blood, European Union
  • Fundamental research of nanomanufacturing, State Key Project, National Science Foundation of China
  • Microceramic fabrication, Royal Society Incoming fellowship
  • Feasibility Study of Micro Engine Fabrication, EPSRC

Kyle is regularly involved in organizing international conferences and gives keynote speeches. He reviews papers for a wide range of journals.

Biography

Kyle Jiang received his PhD in mechatronics at King’s College London in 1994.  He has been with the University of Birmingham as a member of academics since 1999.

Prior to his current appointment, he was a research assistant at King’s College London. In 1998, he joined the University of Liverpool as a lecturer.

His current research interest is in nanotechnology for energy and bio-medical applications.

The group has extensive experience in focused ion beam milling and deposition in nano scales, Si deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), and UV photolithography. In addition, it has developed the following micro/nano fabrication techniques:
