The Institution of Mechanical Engineers Best Project Prize Awarded annually to a final year student who completes an outstanding research, development or design project. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers Best Project Certificate Awarded annually to a student who completes an outstanding research, development or design project. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers Best Student Certificate Awarded annually for the ‘Best Student’ on any year of an accredited IMechE degree course who will be awarded an IMechE accredited degree. Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship Awarded for academic excellence to undergraduate students in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. A student who has received a scholarship in a previous year may receive one again, as long as he/she is deemed worthy. Students in their final year may not be awarded a scholarship. Undergraduate Prizes Awarded for academic excellence in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering; all undergraduates are eligible. Air Products PLC Prize This prize, donated by Air Products plc, is awarded to a first or second year Undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering for an outstanding design project. Austin Rover Prize (UG) Awarded annually to the 2nd year undergraduate student in any course in Manufacturing Engineering whose academic performance, personal qualities, and social contribution show the greatest promise of industrial leadership. Performance in both 1st and 2nd years will be taken into account. David Weale Memorial Prize Awarded to the Undergraduate student in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering making the greatest contribution to the development of the SAE formula student racing car. A prize in memory of Dr David Weale, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Ellis, Linning and Sandifer Prize Awarded annually to the academically most outstanding student in the final year of the B.Eng. programme in Mechanical Engineering. Founded in memory of three former lecturers in the School of Mechanical Engineering. Gilbert Walker Prize in Mechanical Engineering & Commerce Awarded annually to the academically most outstanding student in the 3rd year of the Double Honours course in Mechanical Engineering and Economics. The award may be made on the joint recommendation of the Heads of Schools of Commerce and Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. Gilbert Walker Prize in Engineering & Economics Awarded annually to the academically most outstanding graduating student in either of the B.Eng. and BCom programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Commerce or Manufacturing Engineering and Commerce. Heslop Memorial Prize Awarded annually to a specially outstanding candidate in the 2nd year of a programme leading to the degree of BSc or B.Eng. The prize will rotate between the Schools in Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Engineering. Provided out of the proceeds of a bequest by the late Thomas Pretious Heslop MD. J Brown (Machine Tools) Ltd. Prize Awarded annually on an alternating basis to the 2nd year undergraduate student in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering who achieves the best overall examination performance in the School. Normally the prize will be awarded in each course in alternate years but, if any year there is no nomination of sufficient merit from the relevant course, then a nomination may be considered from the other. Founded from the proceeds of a donation from the Wickman Engineering Company - latterly renamed J Brown (Machine Tools) Ltd. Manufacturing Engineering and Commerce Prize Awarded annually to the academically most outstanding student in the 3rd year of the Double Honours programme in Manufacturing Engineering and Commerce. Moran Memorial Prize Awarded annually to the undergraduate student who, in the first year of the course in the School of Engineering while studying in the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering discipline shows the greatest all round merit. Preference is made to students studying aspects of Engineering Production. Mucklow Prize Awarded annually for the best project submitted in the final year of the B.Eng. programme in Mechanical Engineering. Founded in memory of Professor GF Mucklow, former Head of School of Mechanical Engineering. Opus Recruitment Solutions Prize Awarded to the final year student who produces the best business plan project on the entrepneusrship module of the Mechanical Engineering with business management programme. Kindly donated by Opus Recruitment Solutions. Petro-Forge prize Awarded annually to a final year undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, Manufacture and Management whose design of thesis project has shown outstanding creative capacity. The award is generally made for travel abroad, particularly for visiting the towns of Italy which gave birth to the Renaissance. Roger Chance Prize Awarded annually to the academically most outstanding student in the final year of a programme in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacture and Management. Samuel Alfred Roberts Award This award is presented annually to the top student in Mechanical Engineering showing ability to share control in Industry. SA Tobias Memorial Prize Awarded to a student in any year of the MEng and Man programme in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering who submits project or case study work which is outstanding in the areas of innovation and entrepeneurship. Founded by a donation from Mrs. S Tobias in memory of her husband, Professor SA Tobias, Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering, 1959-1986. Years 1/2/3/4 eligible. Stephen Hayes Prize Awarded to an undergraduate student, or group of students, in the School of Mechanical Engineering who submits outstanding assessed work in a field in which computing plays a major part. Founded by donations from past students and colleagues of Stephen Hayes (Senior Lecturer 1968-1981) in acknowledgement of his service to the University. Years 1/2/3/4 eligible.
