Particle Physics Masterclass, 17th April 2013
Call for Nominations for the Y12 Physics Students of the year 2012-13 - We will be inviting teachers to nominate the best Y12 Physics student in their school for an award again in 2012-13. There will be a presentation evening at the University of Birmingham in June/July 2013. Sponsored by the Ogden trust. Open to all schools & colleges in Birmingham & Solihull and surrounding areas.
Physics Experience Week (for individual Year 11 students) - 1st to 5th July 2013.
IOP Schools lecture 16th April 2013 at 11.00am to 12.00noon and repeated at 2.00pm to 3.00pm for Year 10 & 11 students. Free event with around 600 places available. Defying Gravity: Make Physics your Launchpad. This lecture explores how scientists and engineers have used physics to make the dream of space exploration a reality. It will look at the science behind sending a vessel into orbit and the conditions that astronauts experience while in space, as well as explaining how space tourism is fast becoming a reality. Speaker: Laura Thomas – a professional science communicator with extensive experience of schools outreach. To book places for your students please e-mail Lynne Long – l.long@bham.ac.uk
