Sources of finance for prospective postgraduates

UK students:

The School has a number of research studentships supported by EPSRC and STFC available each year including some CASE studentships.  To be eligible for one of these 3½ year awards you must be a UK national and have preferably a First, or Upper Second Class degree from a UK University, or equivalent. Preference will usually be given to students holding four-year MPhys or MSci degrees.

EPSRC DTA Studentships (~ 5 available annually) typically announced in February.

EPSRC Studentships cover payment of living/maintenance allowance at ~ £13,957 per annum for 3½ years plus tuition fees of £3,925 per annum.  Maintenance awards are paid monthly in advance.

EPSRC Studentships are available for research in the Condensed Matter, Cold Atoms, Metamaterials, Molecular,  Nanoscale, and Theoretical Physics Research Groups.

STFC Studentships (~ 6 available annually) typically announced in February.

STFC Studentships cover payment of living/maintenance allowance at ~ £13,957 per annum for 3½ years, plus tuition fees of £3,925 per annum.  Maintenance awards are paid monthly in advance.

STFC Studentships are available for research in the Astrophysics and Space Research, Particle Physics, Asteroseismology, and Nuclear Physics Research Groups.


UK and EU students:

EU nationals may be eligible for fees-only EPSRC/STFC awards which are sometimes supplemented by the School/Research Group.
