Facilities in the School of Psychology

The School is at the centre of the campus in buildings that have been modernised to meet our particular needs. Depth perception bubbleFacilities include laboratories specially equipped for work in human brain sciences (including brain imaging), psychophysiology, cognition and speech production, visual and auditory perception, food and nutritional psychology, psychopharmacology, social psychology, child development, clinical and forensic psychology.

Besides the School’s own equipment and laboratories, many facilities in outside organisations can be used. There are also strong links with departments in our own and in other Divisions covering the arts, social, engineering and medical disciplines.

Facilities include:

Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Cognitive Robotics (CNCR)

Description
The Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Cognitive Robotics is served by several facilities for behavioral and imaging experiments. It also has computational resources and several robotic platforms.

Infant and Child Laboratory - School of Psychology

Description
Welcome to the University of Birmingham Infant and Child Laboratory. We are based in the School of Psychology on the University campus, and in our research we study a variety of questions about infants' and young children's developing minds and brains.

PRISM Predictive Sensory Motor Lab - School of Psychology

Description
The PRISM Predictive Sensory Motor Lab is part of the Behavioural Brain Sciences Centre. We are working on questions of sensory-motor control, motor learning, coordination and motor cognition. The main thrust of our work is to look at the role of predictive processes in the human motor system.

Sensory Motor Neuroscience (SyMoN) - School of Psychology

Description
SyMoN comprises a number of specialised labs including Action dynamics, Active Touch, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Posture and balance and a Technical Project Area.

The Selective Attention and Awareness Laboratory (SAAL)

Description

The Vision Laboratory - School of Psychology

Description
Applying theoretical analysis, psychophysical experiments and computational modelling to the understanding of human vision. The Vision Laboratory focuses on many aspects of human vision including motion perception, spatial vision, and stereopsis.

The Birmingham University Imaging Centre (BUIC)

BUIC houses the University's 3T Philips Achieva MRI scanner, along with state-of-the-art stimulus delivery and recording equipment, including eye tracking and limb movement recording, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and 64 channel simultaneous EEG recording.
