PhD student Jayne Trickett has been awarded a European Sleep Research Society meeting travel grant to attend and present a poster at the Sleep and Breathing 2017 conference this month in Marseille.

The large pan-European conference is organised by the European Respiratory Society and the European Sleep Research Society. The focus of the conference is on the investigation and treatment of sleep disorders, to include sleep related breathing disorders.

Jayne, a PhD student in Cerebra centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders research group, was awarded the grant to present a poster relating to her recently submitted PhD thesis on sleep-related breathing disorders in two rare genetic syndrome groups: children with Smith-Magenis syndrome and children with Angelman syndrome. Jayne’s PhD, which was supervised by Professor Chris Oliver, Dr Caroline Richards and Dr Mary Heald described the nature and prevalence of sleep disturbance in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The abstract for the poster will be published in the journal Somnologie.
