Effie is undertaking doctoral research into the communicative abilities of individuals with Angelman syndrome. She is looking at further developing the profile of communication in people with Angelman syndrome, including the nature of the communicative impairment and the use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices among individuals. This PhD is funded by Cerebra and the Angelman Syndrome Support, Education and Research Trust (ASSERT).

Biography

Effie graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2015, and was involved in research at the Cerebra Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders as part of her MSci Psychology and Psychological Practice course. This research investigated self-injury in non-verbal children with an intellectual disability.
