Various aspects of human motion perception are studied using both psychophysical and computational modelling techniques. Modern theories of optic flow perception, some developed in this laboratory on the basis of psychophysical data, suggest that the human visual system consists of many mechanisms functioning in series and in parallel to describe different types of retinal motion. We are developing models of the mechanisms which encode the flow patterns resulting from natural movements about the world.
