Dr Markus Rank is a postdoctoral research fellow in the field of computational neuroscience. His research goal is to develop dynamic computational models for the haptic perceptual and action system.

Biography
Dr Markus Rank received his PhD from the Technische Universität München in Munich, Germany, where he studied the modeling of human perception and action dynamics and the application of such models to multimodal telepresence systems. He was awarded with a postdoctoral fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2012. He is with the University of Birmingham since January 2013.
Research
Dr Rank’s research aims towards a deeper understanding and modeling of dynamic processes within the human haptic perception and action system. A specific focus lies on the combination of goal-driven movements and sensory evidence into a unified percept of environmental features. System theoretic modeling techniques are utilized to combine haptic time series data and psychophysical variables into quantitative perception models that can be utilized in engineering applications.

Dr Rank is a member in the Eurohaptics Society and serves as a reviewer for multiple journals, including IEEE Transactions on Haptics, IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems and Presence (MIT Press).
