Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion

Elizabeth Harris and Andrew Smith (the Director of Interfaith Relations for the Bishop of Birmingham) participated in an Anglican-Lutheran-Buddhist Consultation in Yangon, Myanmar, from January 16 - 20, 2017.

The consultation was organised by The Anglican Communion (NIFCON), The Lutheran World Federation, The World Council of Churches and the Diocese of Yangon, Myanmar, and was hosted by the Church of the Province of Myanmar under the leadership of Archbishop Stephen Than Myint Oo. Elizabeth Harris, Honorary Fellow of The Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion, gave a paper on the history of Buddhist-Christian relations and acted as a consultant to the planning group. Alongside the consultation Andrew Smith (who is also Honorary Fellow of The Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion) preached at two churches in Yangon and delivered a lecture at the Myanmar Institute of Theology.  The event also included a visit to the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Yangon.
