IASS academics, Basia Spalek and Laura Zahra McDonald have been successful in obtaining a series of research grants, all linked to focusing on community initiatives with police to counter violent extremism. The projects include:
ESRC Community-Police Engagement and Partnerships for Preventing Terror Crime: A collaboration involving researchers in the UK, United States and Northern Ireland.
This project involves Basia undertaking workshops in Washington DC and Belfast, with policy makers, communities and police.
AHRC, Connected Communities Programme - conflict within and between communities - with respect to the role of communities in helping to deafeat and/or endorse terrorism and the interface with policing efforts to counter terrorism.
ESRC An International Conference Exploring Community Based Initiatives aimed at Countering Terrorism.
Basia and Laura are also in the process of creating an International Research and Resource Hub on Police-Community Engagement and Counter-Terrorism.
