Maureen Smojkis from IASS and the Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Mental Health (CEIMH), collaborated with the Midlands Polish Community Association on a Heritage Lottery funded project. This oral history project collected the memories of 21 Polish people who arrived in Birmingham as a consequence of the Second World War. It tells the story of their incredible journeys; their experiences of War, deportation and imprisonment by the Nazis and the Soviets. The whole exhibition will relocate to Newman College at the beginning of February 2013.
Louise Gessey from the University Library said "We are very happy to have the ‘War and Peace’ exhibition in the Main Library, which will be in the iLounge until the 1st February. For me, learning about the project, especially with its local connections has been very interesting and we plan to rotate the panels each week in order to display the variety of life stories that it features. The accompanying booklet has been added to library stock so that our users may read it both now and in years to come."
