Birmingham social work student, Alka Chawla, has recently been featured in an article for St Mary's Hospice, after completing a placement there as part of her social work training.
Legal eagle Alka Chawla has swapped a career in law for social work and is just coming to the end of an inspiring 100-day placement at Birmingham St Mary's Hospice as part of her retraining effort.
Her experience as a solicitor has come in very handy at the Hospice, as the student brings with her an expert understanding of highly relevant areas of law, such as wills, property and power of attorney. She's also great at advocating for people.
Assigned to the Hospice's Family and Carer Support Team, Alka is currently half way through the University of Birmingham's two-year Social Work Masters Programme and plans to become a full time social worker next year.
