Following his three month fellowship with David Mullins at the Housing and Communities Research Group from April to June 2013, Dr Richard Lang from Austria will deliver the first William Plowden Lecture at Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre, Waterloo, in London on Thursday 12 September.
His lecture is entitled: 'Bringing real localism into practice through co-operative housing governance - the role and prospects of community-led housing in England'
This prestigious event will be introduced by Sir Stuart Etherington, CEO of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and Veronica Plowden, William Plowden's widow. The following discussion will be chaired by Nicholas Deakin, former Professor of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham, and responded to by Nic Bliss, Chair of the Mutual Housing Group.
Professor David Mullins said, "This is a great honour for Richard and for the Housing and Communities Research Group at Birmingham. Richard's knowledge of the successful housing co-operative sector in Vienna has enabled him to provide us with some interesting insights into community-led housing and localism here in England. It will be very interesting to see how people at the lecture engage with Richard's work."
