Irregular migrant crossings in the Mediterranean

Dr Nando Sigona from the Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS), was interviewed recently by the BBC's Jon Sopel as Spain has called for help from the European Union in controlling one of Europe's most southern borders. In recent weeks, hundreds of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa have scaled the border fence separating the Spanish territory of Melilla with neighbouring Morocco.
