After the success of last year's Public Service Academy Employability Event, the Schools of Government and Society and Social Policy, in conjunction with the Public Service Academy (PSA) and the College of Social Science Careers Network, held its second employability event on 26 February 2014.
This event is designed for students to meet with representatives in the public services in order to get career advice and build contacts with key public service organisations. This year the event was again a great success and was met with a great deal of enthusiasm. Indeed, approximately 50 students attended to network with public service (and related) staff members.
We were again lucky enough to welcome local government officials, representatives from Birmingham Children's Hospital and West Midlands Police. This year, however, we also had a number of other public organisations represented, including Warwick Social Services, West Midlands Probation Service and the Army Reserves. As such, a wide variety of public service careers were represented at this event; some of which were offering current or forthcoming internship opportunities.
As always, the now annual PSA employability event could not have been possible without the help of our contacts and alumni who are placed within the public services.
Overall, this was an excellent event which, with the support of the PSA, we seek to revisit next year for the 3rd time.
