Description
Head of the College of Social Sciences, Professor Saul Becker, estimates that there are a quarter of a million of young adult carers, and says more needs to be done in schools, universities and across government to recognise the growing needs of this invisible army. Saul recently featured on the BBC Radio 4 programme, 'Care, Work, Sleep, Repeat', which aired on Friday 10 October.

Is the call for a tougher UK response to extremists unreasonable?

The School of Social Policy's Dr Chris Allen, participated in a live debate for 'Voice of Russia' on the new counter-extremism powers proposed by Theresa May at the Tory party conference. Under these new proposals preachers of hate will be banned from public speaking or spreading their propoganda on social media, under sweeping new powers.

IRiS event: Education, ethnicity and gender: Biographies of Roma and Sinti women in Germany

All are welcome at this presentation from Julie Reimer of the University of Bamberg, Germany, of an ongoing research project (in the context of a doctoral dissertation) that brings into focus that especially Roma and Sinti women are confronted with various levels of discrimination as they belong to a certain ethnicity and are female.
