Low income working households in the private rented sector (2009-2010)

Funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

At present, non-working households in the private rented sector (PRS) may qualify for Housing Benefit. This is set at a level reflecting the local market rents, taking an average. This leaves open the possibility that working families will have worse accommodation than those not in work.

CURS is conducting a new survey, whilst IASS is conducting secondary data analysis, principally of the Family Resources Survey (FRS).
