Whole Family Approaches: how these may contribute to the reablement of people with mental health difficulties (2011-2012)

Funded by the London School of Economics and Political Science (NIHR)

This project aims to shift the research lens beyond the individual and explore how improved family relationships may be  key to enabling some people with social care needs to lead fuller and more involved lives, and also perhaps reducing their level of dependence on social care services.

Whole family approaches may provide families with experience of professional recognition of their contributions and strengths which might in itself be enabling. Although the project will focus on mental health, where there are currently more examples of family focused practice, its findings may be more widely applicable across the adult social care sector.
