I worked at HSMC for nearly 3 years as Library and Information Services Manager. It was a very enjoyable time, leading a small team in developing innovative library and information services for a variety of users- staff and students at HSMC, public health trainees and external NHS partners. In this period, HSMC was commissioned as one of the providers of the NHS Management Training Scheme and this was an exciting time for the library in developing services for this new user group who often required supporting at a distance.
I left in 2002 to head up the Health Care Libraries at the University of Oxford and I have since moved into mainstream academic library management. I am currently Head of Library and Learning Services at Southampton Solent University.
I keep a watching brief on developments at HSMC and am pleased that library and information services have gone from strength to strength and have retained NHS customers and gained new contracts, despite the many changes in the sector.
