Professor Jon Glasby has won the University’s Charles Beale award for influencing national policy. Jon was presented with his award at the annual Vice-Chancellor’s dinner by Michael Collie from BBC Midlands Today.

The prestigious award is granted to an academic who is judged to have made a significant contribution to policy debate, in this case, the White Paper on long-term care for the elderly, issued in March 2010. Jon was recognised for his report  The case for social care reform – the wider economic and social benefits, which concludes that without a radical rethink of current priorities, the real cost of providing social care will double in the next twenty years.

Building on this work, Jon and HSMC colleagues continue to exert their influence and inform ongoing policy debates in this arena with the current coalition government.
