The rise of medical tourism

Posted on Friday 2nd September 2011

Professor Russell Mannion is due to deliver a presentation on the rise of Medical Tourism with York University colleague Neil Lunt, at the Health Policy and Politics Network conference, Magdelen College, Oxford, next week.

'This is a very topical subject', notes Russell, '...as the latest reforms propose to lift the cap on private patients in Foundation Trusts and it's expected many will seek to increase their recruitment of international patients. In addition, increasing numbers of UK patients are paying out of their own pocket for treatment overseas which is often quicker and cheaper than in the UK. However, as you might expect, this gives rise to all sorts of policy questions.'
