Exploring the potential of social enterprise in health and social care

Posted on Thursday 29th March 2012

HSMC academics, Robin Miller and Ross Millar facilitated an event in Cardiff recently, exploring the potential of social enterprise in health and social care within Wales.

Organised by the National Leadership & Innovation Agency for Healthcare and the Welsh NHS Confederation, the event brought together representatives from the NHS, Local Authority and Third Sector to consider how social enterprise could respond to the current challenges faced in Wales and what support would be required to grow this emerging sector.

It built upon the experience of HSMC and TSRC in this area, and in particular the evaluation of the Social Enterprise Investment Fund and the Right to Request Programme. Also speaking at the event were Lis Burnett from Glamorgan University and the founders of two Welsh social enterprises, Barry Shiers from Vision 21 and Gill Webber from Well-being Regeneration. A report from the day will be available later in 2012.
